Deep Work Series

Connect, Share, and Reframe

Built on the success of our pilot project, our Deep Work series supports women in engineering through workshops and personalized coaching. Participants will leave the program with:

  • Clarity about the systemic nature of their experiences

  • Support from their new-found network

  • New possibilities for moving forward.

The program includes eight weeks of online group sessions that blend award-winning research, skilled facilitation, and meaningful discussions. These sessions offer a rare space to reflect, feel validated, and make sense of your experience, all alongside others who understand.

After building this foundation, you’ll move into eight one-on-one coaching sessions — a space to go deeper, address your own challenges, and explore new ways forward in your career and life.

About the Pilot Project

The Pilot Project was a six-week program held by Her Work in Engineering with 22 women from across Canada and the United States, each with a wide range of experience and links to the profession.

Based on participant feedback and facilitator insights, the Deep Work Series was created to deepen its impact, with the following enhancements:

  • Extended to 8 weeks to allow for more time to discuss moving forward in one’s life and career

  • Added topic of mentoring, helping participants to effectively pay it forward

  • Expanded with 8 one-on-one coaching sessions to go deeper on an individual level

  • Further emphasis on the ethics of facilitating transformational learning

Validation and Support

Participants expressed deep appreciation for the validation of their experiences. Many highlighted how the series helped them realize that their challenges were not unique to them but were shared by other women in the profession. This created a sense of belonging and support.

“Conversations about workplace obstacles and opportunities were both stimulating and healing.”

Research-Based Insights

The integration of Dr. Howard’s research into the series resonated with participants. Many mentioned how having data and research to back up personal experiences helped them understand the broader systemic issues.

“I appreciate your research very much and the awareness it brings to this important issue, along with the foundation it provides for building a better future.”

Sense of Community and Connection

The safe space provided for sharing experiences, especially those involving vulnerability and trauma, was highly appreciated. Participants found it powerful to connect with like-minded women from various stages in their careers and industries.

“I valued the chance to connect and learn from other women engineers. It's always great to hear different perspectives.”

Increased Awareness of Systemic Issues

Several participants noted how the series helped them recognize and understand microaggressions and other negative workplace behaviours they had previously internalized.

“Being able to put words to my experiences and examine them in a systemic way is a powerful thing.”

Self-Trust and Self-Compassion

The series fostered a sense of self-trust and self-compassion. Many women acknowledged the need to believe in their own truth as they address the challenges in their environments.

“It helped me lean into my voice, trust my truth as valid, and recognize the powerful impact of sharing my story with others.”
